Eliza Owen (b. 1997) graduated from the Ruskin School of Art, University of Oxford, in 2022. Her work moves between landscape and the architectural structures we build within it. Memories of landscape inform the materiality of her practice, which plays with lightness, air and fragility in relation to stronger structural forms and colours. Owen builds installations that recreate the world around her in the abstract, while her prints act as compressed two-dimensional readings of her sculptural works—memories of spaces that no longer exist. Across the work is a preoccupation with pressure and release, testing the physical qualities of making to reveal an emotional state. Upon graduating, Owen’s prints were acquired by the Ashmolean Museum, Oxford, for its Contemporary Collection of works on paper, and by the Sir Paul Ruddock Foundation on behalf of Mansfield College, Oxford. Her work is also held in private collections across the UK, EU, Switzerland and the USA.
